WAIMANU NATIONAL ESTUARINE RESEARCH RESERVE This state reserve is located on the northern coast of the island of Hawaii. It includes the Waimanu and Waipio Valleys, at the base of the Kohala Mountainswith small gullies, wetlands, beaches, several streams, and some waterfalls. Portions of the reserve are forested, and there are groves of fruit trees. Activities: A single trail is available for hiking or backpacking: the 7-mile Muliwai Trail, which runs between Waipio and Waimanu Valleys.
