POLY THEATRE SHENZHEN
This is the latest of Shenzhen’s live theatres. It’s situated in an area which not long ago was under water but which is now home to an array of dazzling glass and steel structures of which the egg shaped Poly is one of the more striking.
It’s a little more middlebrow than the Shenzhen Concert Hall. Poly is one of the commercial arms of the Northern Military Command so it’s not surprising that song, dance and ballet troupes from the Russian Red Army feature large on its schedules. But in the past year or so there have been a wide variety of performances from Cats through the ballet of Sleeping Beauty to various acrobatic troupes.
