Cathedral (Dom, 1614-1628, first Baroque style church north of the Alps, baptismal font from the old Romanesque cathedral); Domplatz (large beautiful square surrounded by the Cathedral and the former ecclesiastical palaces); Church of St. George (Late Gothic); Church of the Trinity (1694-1699, built by the great architect Fischer von Erlach); Festival Hall (Festspielhaus); Franciscans’Church (consecrated 1223, several Romanesque and Gothic hanges were carried out); Getreidegasse (one of Salzburg’s main streets with many shops) and Mozart’s birthplace; Hohensalzburg (fortress, begun 1077, enlarged 1500); Horse Trough (1700); Mirabell Gardens (laid out in the early 18th c. by Fischer von Erlach); Mirabell Palace (begun 1606, given Baroque elements by Lukas von Hildebrandt); St. Peter’s Abbey (Austria’s oldest monastery, 696, adjacent to it is St. Peter’s Churchyard with catacombs from the 3rd c.); St. Peters Church (Romanesque basilica with beautiful stuccos and frescos).
