CALIFORNIA SEQUOIA NATIONAL FOREST 1,115,375 acres. This National Forest consists of several tracts near and adjacent to Sequoia National Park, in southcentral California. It includes high mountains of the Sierra Nevada, with 12,432-foot Mount Florence the top elevation. There are rugged peaks, granite domes, rock formations, deep canyons, foothills, and areas of desert here, along with some lakes, rivers, and creeks with waterfalls. Of special interest are the many giant sequoias, which stand as high as 270 feet, with diameters which occasionally exceed 30 feet. CALIFORNIA INYO NATIONAL FOREST 1,798,638 acres in California. Inyo National Forest consists of long and narrow tracts in the Sierras east of Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon National Parks. Mountains here include 14,495-foot Mount Whitney, highest point in the lower 48 states. Terrain consists of steep jagged peaks, deep canyons and cliffs, boulders and rock domes, glaciers, rolling hills, and some desert. There are also meadows with wildflowers, hundreds of lakes, and streams with waterfalls.
