Hiking south along the upper grade, you will pass the quarry sites, large sandstone blocks stacked like cordwood waiting for trains that will never come, and a section of horst. You will also find piles of smaller rocks along the trail. Too small for construction purposes, these were crushed to make cement or road-building material. Mosses, ferns, and liverworts grow on narrow ledges of the sandstone walls, moistened by water seeping from cracks in the rock. Small trees also grow
