SIGHTS Rathaus (Counril House, 1507-1513, arcaded main building, late Burgundian Gothic)-Minster – Basle’s landmark (oldest parts date from the late Romanesque period, also Gothic elements); St. Peter’s Church; Spalentor (1370, a fortfied gate, regarded as Switzerlands’s most beautiful town gate). It now faces a McDonalds! Across the bridge are onetime rubber works built in period brick, which are listed buildings and slowly being restored for other uses. Many other old buildings have disappeared, though, but many attractive flats are going up. After stagings on our side and then on the other there are very colourful flats. Bilsland Drive Aqueduct (1879)
