Terrain here includes lofty peaks and basins, volcanic rock formations, cliffs and bluffs, and steep canyons. Highest elevation is 9,182-foot Mount Thielson. In the region are some rivers, small lakes, and many streams with waterfalls. There are stands of old-growth Douglas fir, along with forests of cedar, pine, and hemlock, and open alpine meadows.
