While it occasionally runs right along the crest, the trail generally follows beneath the actual divide. The route is incredibly scenic and magnificent, with many open vistas. Difficulty varies from easy to very strenuous. At highest elevations the trail is under snow for up to 10 months of the year. Horses are allowed on most sections.
