					<description><![CDATA[<p>Parsons, Lucy (c. 1853-1942). Activist Lucy Parsons identified herself as an African American woman of Native American and Mexican descent. Parsons was an activist who stood up for the rights of poor people and workers for nearly 70 years. The Chicago Police Department described her as more dangerous than a thousand rioters. Parsons married in 1870 and in 1873 came to Chicago, where she worked with unions and organized workers. Parsons led many workers on strike against poor working conditions. Parsons continued her activism until her death at 89 years old. In May 2004, Chicago Park District&#8217;s board named a </p>
