CHUGACH NATIONAL FOREST 5,800,000 acres. Situated in the southern part of the state, with most lands lying southeast of Anchorage and near or alongside the Gulf of Houston, this is the second largest National Forest in the United States. It includes part of the Kenai Peninsula with the Kenai Mountains, the Copper River Delta, and Prince William Soundwhich has 3,500 miles of shoreline, and suffered some damage from the 1989 oil spill.
