It’s an area of high peaks, volcanoes and craters, glaciers, and desertplus many streams, over 150 lakes, and six National Wild and Scenic Rivers. There are meadows, forests of ponderosa and lodgepole pine, spruce, and Douglas fir, including old-growth stands. Among the wildlife are elk, mule deer, black bear, and coyote.
