The centerpiece here is Crater Lake, at an elevation of 6,176 feet. It&#8217;s six miles across and over 1,500 feet deep. The lake lies in the cal-dera of a collapsed volcano. Nearby are several mountains, with elevations from under 5,000 feet to over 8,900 feet. Highest point is 8,926-foot Mount Scott. There are old-growth conifer forests of hemlock, fir, and pine. Wildlife includes elk, black bear, coyote, and fox. Activities: Backpacking and hiking are available on more than 100 miles </p>

In the region are forests of Douglas and grand fir, ponderosa and lodgepole pine, and western larch, along with meadows and grasslands. Wildlife includes Rocky Mountain elk, white-tailed and mule deer, bighorn sheep, mountain lion, and coyote. </p>
