Highest elevation here is 9,182-foot Mount Thielsen. Along with volcanic mountains and rock outcrops there are many glacial lakes, rivers, streams, and forests of mixed conifers, plus some meadows. Among the wildlife are elk, mule deer, black bear, mountain lion, and bobcat. The forest has three designated wilderness areas: the 116,300-acre Sky Lakes Wilderness, part of the 55,100-acre Mount Thielsen Wilderness, and the 23,071-acre Mountain Lakes Wilderness. Activities: Backpacking and hiking are possible
