					<description><![CDATA[<p>Pennsylvania Travel BUCHANAN STATE FOREST 75,000 acres. This state forest consists of several tracts in south-central Pennsylvania, including lands next to the Maryland border. There are low mountain ridges here, along with hills, valleys, and some streams. Of special interest is the 11,500-acre Martin Hill Wild Area, which has some rugged terrain. Common trees are oak and hickory, with virgin pine and hemlock. White-tailed deer, black bear, bobcat, and wild turkey are among the wildlife. Activities: Hiking and backpacking are available on a number of trails, including a section of the Tuscarora Trail (see entry page 252), which follows the </p>

Consisting of a 79,000-acre tract along with other units in central Pennsylvania, this state forest covers a number of mountain ridgeswith sandstone formations, other rugged terrain, and views from elevations as high as 2,400 feet. Included are the 4,800-acre Thickhead Wild Area and five small designated Natural Areas, with streams, swamps, and the Juniata River.
