Located in southeastern Wisconsin, Kettle Moraine State Forest’s northern unit has a hilly glacial landscape. The area is forested with oak, maple, and other hardwoods, plus pine and cedar, and there are some lakes and streams. Wildlife includes deer, coyote, and fox. Activities: The forest has about 70 miles of trails for backpacking and hiking, including the 29-mile Glacial Trail. Cross-country skiing is possible during winter on many of the trails. There are also designated horse trails, including the 33-mile Kettle Moraine Bridle Trail, and horses may be rented nearby.
