Visit to Wyoming MAJOR BACKPACKING TRAILS CONTINENTAL DIVIDE TRAIL When completed, this important National Scenic Trail will extend over 3,000 miles from Canada to Mexico. So far only the Montana and Idaho sections have been officially designated and marked. The route in Wyoming still remains tentative. For most of its length here the trail is on National Forest lands, and it also passes through Yellowstone National Park. The trail follows near or next to the Continental Divide, and occasionally runs directly along the crest. It generally remains at high elevations, of course, and scenery along the way is often magnificent.
