LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA 896,000 acres in Arizona (1,480,000 acres total). Located in northwest Arizona just west of Grand Canyon National Park, as well as in the southeast corner of Nevada, this National Recreation Area features 110-mile-long Lake Mead and 67-mile-long Lake Mohave. Both were formed by damming up the Colorado River. In this desert region are mountains, plateaus, canyons, and sandstone formations.
