					<description><![CDATA[<p>THE NAME &#8220;SHENZHEN The name Shenzhen means deep drainage ditches. The zhen in Shenzhen refers to the ditches that take the water away from paddy fields. Zhen is not a place name that occurs with any frequency in deep antiquity, but today it is relatively common. It occurs in a limited area of Southern China. The area and the historical occurrence of place names incorporating the word zhen are compatible with a name brought by refugees fleeing south from the Khitan, Jurchen and Mongol invasions which occurred in North China after the fall of the Tang Dynasty at around 1000 </p>
