On these lands are the Abajo and Lasal Mountains, with peaks over 12,000 feet, and also the high Wasatch Plateau. There’s one designated wilderness area, the 45,000-acre Dark Canyon Wilderness. Scenery throughout the National Forest includes cirque ba-I sins, narrow canyons with red rock cliffs, mesas, ridges, hills, and some creeks. Vegetation ranges from cactus and sagebrush to pinyon-juniper and forests of spruce-fir, ponderosa pine, and aspen.

Among the notable mountains here are 11,877-foot Mount Nebo and 11,750-foot Mount Timpanogos. Travel to Utah DIXIE NATIONAL FOREST Consisting of four units in south-central and southwest Utah, including lands next to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks, this is the largest National Forest in the state. Elevations range from under 4,000 feet to over 11,000 feet, with 11,322-foot Bluebell Knoll the highest point. There are canyons with steep cliffs, colorful rock formations and pinnacles, plateaus and mesas, along with a number of lakes and streams. Forests are of fir and pine, plus pinyon and juniper.
