Big Wave Bay Beach, heaven for suffers, is comparatively close to Shek O Beach. You will meet a gorgeous BBQ area with children’s playground in a park which is located at the mouth of the beach. Another well-prepared BBQ area is sitting at the end of the beach for your water activity together with BBQ. All facilities such as changing and shower room, restroom, wastebaskets, sands, BBQ sites and the park are all clean and free. As introduced for Shek O Beach, you can easily collect all BBQ items and foods from a Wellcome superstore at MTR Shau Kei Wan Station before riding a bus towards Big Wave Bay.

If you take a red minibus at MTR Shau Kei Wan Station bound for Big Wave Bay via Shek O Beach, it takes around 30 minutes to the beach and costs HK$10.00. Remember that you have to prepare exact fare only in cash for the red minibus. You can also take a double-deck bus no. 9 bound for Shek O Beach from the bus terminus at MTR Shau Kei Wan Station. It sometimes stops at Big Wave Bay on the way to Shek O. Considering its restricted operation to Big Wave Bay, you’d better take a minibus to the beach.

It’s the same store introduced for “Shek O Beach”. Go around 50 meters left from the exit A2 of MTR Shau Kei Wan Station and you will meet a Wellcome superstore on your left. Collect all BBQ items and foods at the store before riding a bus no. 9 or a red minibus.

The way to Big Wave Bay Beach is the same as Shek O. There are 2 types of bus at MTR Shau Kei Wan Station to the beach. One is double-deck bus no. 9 bound for Shek O and the other one is red minibus bound for Big Wave Bay via Shek O Beach. However, bus no. 9 operates to Big Wave Bay only at limited times. Therefore, red minibus is the best way for the beach. The station for red minibus is located just next to exit A2 of MTR Shau Kei Wan Station. The minibus runs only between the station and Big Wave Bay via Shek O.

There are 2 kinds of minibus in Hong Kong. One is Green Minibus (GMB) and the other is Red Minibus (RMB). GMB runs on fixed route at fixed fare. On the other hand, RMB has no regulation on the route, fare and time. Fortunately, the red minibus at MTR Shau Kei Wan Station runs with around 20-minute-interval. It costs HK$10.00 for Big Wave Bay and HK$7.00 for Shek O. Different from GMB or double-deck bus, you have to prepare fare for the red minibus in cash instead of Octopus Card. No change no Octopus Card.
