Location: Start at 48th Avenue and 50th Street, next to the Paddle River Golf Course’s 9th hole.

The Blue Heron Trail winds through various town parks and includes a boardwalk along the picturesque Paddle River. Walkways follow the Paddle River from the Paddle Golf Course through Beaver Brook to Barrhead Golf and Recreation Area. It is groomed for cross-country skiing in the winter.

Barrhead and District Centennial Museum and Barrhead Visitor Information Centre

Location: 5629-49th Street, 3 blocks north of Barrhead on Hwy 33.

Info: Open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Barrhead Visitor Information centre is open from May through September. 780-674-5203.

The Barrhead Centennial Museum contains an astonishing array of artifacts that reveal how early settlers coped with daily life. The collection includes farm equipment, pioneer furniture, and an especially interesting map that details the route of the Klondike Trail through the County of Barrhead. You can also see the third-largest privately owned exhibit of African artifacts in Canada, as well as a collection of the local newspaper archive dating back to 1928.
