Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do in this gorgeous oasis north of Budapest. Catch the #26 or 26A bus in Pest at Nyugati pu. and take it to the Grand Hotel on the island.
Rent bikes, in-line skates, and pedal carts at Bringovar. (329 27 46. Open daily 8am-dusk.)
Visit the Palatinus Strandfiirdo, dubbed Budapest’s Beach. Huge pools and waterslides provide respite from the heat.
Stop and have a bite to eat at Europe Grill Kert. (Open daily llam-lOpm.)
Stroll or bike through the beautiful Rose Garden.
Next to the garden is the Artist’s Walk, a sculpture park dedicated to Hungary’s cultural icons.
King Bela IV once bet on his daughter’s freedom and lost; visit St. Margaret’s Monastery Ruins which are named after the unfortunate girl.
VISAS. Citizens of Australia, Canada, Ireland, N ew Zealand, the UK, andtheUSdo not need visas for stays of up to 90 days. Visas are required of South African citizens. All visitors must register with the police within 48 hours of arrival, regardless of the length of their stay. Hotels, campsites, and accommodations agencies should automatically register you, but those staying with friends or in private rooms must register themselves to avoid fines or expulsion. Police may check passports anywhere. There is no entry fee at the border.
