ENTERTAINMENT

The Freelance Players, a multicultural, young people’s theater group, produces original musical theater for all audiences. The focus is on theater education and social interaction for the participants; at the end of each session (usually in December and May), the kids perform an original musical they have created themselves. Tickets to these shows are $5. The group is open to budding actors from ages twelve to seventeen. There are also Freelance Troupes for kids eight to twelve. Call the organization for dates and venues.

Rightly or wrongly, it was a system that we adopted due to the pressures of shift work and our lives in general: it was a matter of diving solo or not diving at all, meaning we would miss out on many hundreds of dives. Although I am certainly not recommending it for everyone, I feel that as long as a diver is totally aware of their environment, feels confident and knows their own capabilities, diving solo in reasonably shallow water is sometimes acceptable and often more interesting. This blog includes many wrecks that are much deeper than I could have ever dived to, but times have changed. In the 1970s, 50 metres was a very deep dive, but with the array of technical gear now on sale and the availability of re-breathing courses, the world of deep wrecks appears to be at anyone’s disposal. I sincerely hope that you enjoy reading this blog and that it will be of real help on any future diving trips to this fantastic area off the northeast coast of England. Bamburgh The Farne Islands lie between and 4 miles off the north Northumberland coast and, at low tide, consist of 33 islands, islets or rocks, although at high tide this number is reduced to only 23. They are mainly divided into two major groups, the Inner and outer Farnes The island of Farne, or House Island, situated in the Inner Farnes, is the largest and highest in either group and lies almost directly two miles due east of the pretty little historic village of Bamburgh. A magnificent medieval castle towers majestically over the village on one side and dominates the beautiful long sandy beach with its high rolling dunes on the other. The castle is built on a huge mound of black igneous rock and its walls and ramparts combine with this to form a precipitous 50-metre cliff wall on the seaward side, making the castle a virtually impregnable fortress during the Middle Ages.
