Boston is blessed with 17.2 colleges per resident or something like that. These schools offer a wealth of music, dance, theater, and films which don’t require much personal wealth to attend, unlike the colleges themselves. Many events are free to students, of course (don’t forget your ID!) but most are also open to the general public, for free or a very small charge. If you want to put culture into your life on a regular basis, this is a great way to do it.
Many teachers at Berk-lee are members of prominent local jazz bands or lead their own groups on the club scene; the students they teach sometimes go on to become tomorrow’s stars of jazz and rock. Musical styles vary greatly, including gospel, 20th-century American choral music, alternative rock, and acoustic. Concert schedules vary. Recital hall concerts are free and open to the public. Admission at the performance center is often free or may range from $1 to $4, with general seating.

The Robsham Theater Arts Center hosts music, theatre and dance performances from around town and around the world. Visits by Russian choral groups or the Boston Ballet, as well as plays and dance concerts by student groups, are among the many cultural offerings held here. Admission is modestly priced. The music department also sponsors free concerts and recitals.
