Good seafood cheap that’s Arthur’s, just off Commonwealth Avenue. The place may be lean on atmosphere your basic coffee shop look but the fish is fresh, you get a lot, and the choices are extensive.
The place is open daily; lunch is the best deal here. Arthur’s offers a full slate of daily specials, giving you an entree with one side dish for as little as $3.95. The regular menu has a lot more choices, like the fried seafood platter ($5.90), a full plate of scallops, shrimp, clams and schrod. Each of these is available as an entree of its own for $5.95 with French fries and cole slaw.
On the broiled side, starting at $5, you can get mackerel, bluefish, trout or smelts along with two side dishes. Choose from fries, baked potato, salad, rice pilaf, or the day’s cooked vegetable. Quite a deal. Haddock and sole plates are $5.50; swordfish, salmon and halibut are $7.95. Dinner versions get a bit fancier, with titles like Haddock a la Grec ($7.50), baked in a tomato sauce. Chicken seafood saute ($9.95) pushes the tab up, but it’s a lovely mix of chicken, swordfish, shrimp, and scallops in a mushroom and white wine sauce. Again, you get two side dishes. Meat entrees at lunch and dinner include various shishkebabs, souvlaki, gyros, and loukaniko (Greek sausage). These are all fine; but, when in Rome, as the saying goes ….
