A recent arrival at the busy Harvard Avenue intersection, Big Burrito gets the prize for truth in advertising. Their specialty is just that: A huge soft tortilla, overstuffed with black beans, cheese, lettuce, salsa, and your choice of fillings. Most varieties, from barbecued chicken to Texas chili, are $4.50 each. Ask them to throw some guacamole in there for another half-buck.
The rest of the simple menu covers other Tex-Mex fare, from tacos ($1.95-$2.50) to quesadillas ($3.50) and smoked ribs (a half-rack is just $7.95, with rice and baked beans). Catering to current trends, BB uses natural ingredients wherever possible, including fat-free sour cream and lean ground beef. After ordering from the counter, you can settle into one of many large tables in the spacious, open room. It’s brightly decorated in Southwestern colors. All in all, this is one of the cleanest, healthiest dining spots in a neighborhood which prides itself on grunge. Open from 11:30 A.M. to 11 p.m. daily.
