628 Trapelo Rd. Belmont; (617) 484-7322

Tucked away in the quiet, leafy area known as Waverly Oaks on the Belmont/Waltham line, this diner is considered by many to serve up some of the best Greek food in Boston. Mine particularly likes their mousaka, about as tasty as any he’s had. It’s a huge slab of layered ground lamb and beef, eggplant, and baked custard topping not to mention rice, warm pita bread, and a fresh salad with Andros’ own house dressing (pick up a botde on your way out) all for an amazing $5.50. Just try to finish.

Andros also specializes in seafood, with most entrees at $7-$9. Broiled bluefish, for example, gives you a pair of tender filets, with homemade soup, vegetables, rice, and bread, for $7.50. And if the baked stuffed shrimp and scallop casserole ($9.25) is on the specials menu, grab it

Of course, Andros has all the other traditional Greek and American fare, like gyros, souvlaki, and deli sandwiches. Try to leave some room for a heavenly slice of ba-klava ($1.35) for dessert. The diner also serves up huge breakfasts, and does a brisk take-out business (especially with the nearby McLean Hospital crowd). Open from 6 A.M. to about 8 or 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and Sundays from 7 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.
