Forty years ago. Central Sales began as a family business selling all kinds of used items. Over the years, musical instruments won out as the main line of trade. Here you can find a student guitar for as little as $50, or a full-size Epiphone for $125. Prices include a case, strap, and picks. There are new guitars for sale as well (they’re the only authorized Fender dealer in Cambridge), but all other instruments come used only. A repair staff works on site.
Band instruments move well here too. Trumpets start as low as $40 (or $100 without dents), saxophones from $250. Used brass and woodwinds carry a 30-day warranty; everything else is covered for one year.
The store offers one other unique guarantee: Within a year of your purchase, you can trade any instrument back in for 75% of its original price in store credit. CSMC is open daily from 10-6.
