GALLITZIN STATE MAP PENNSYLVANIA
15,336 acres. Consisting of two tracts of land in southwest Pennsylvania, hilly Gallitzin State Forest has mixed hardwood forests, streams, and wildlife including black bear. There’s a designated Wild Area, the Clear Shape Wild Area, and the Charles F. Lewis Natural Area features a gorge with waterfalls.
Activities: Backpacking and hiking are possible on several easy to moderate trails. Cross-country skiing is a winter option here. Fishing is available, and hunting is permitted in season.
Camping Regulations: Campers are asked to call or visit the forest office for information and to register plans, indicating where they will be camping and when. Maximum stay allowed is two nights. It’s recommended that group size be limited to four.
Most parts of the forest are open to camping, but there are restricted areas. Campsites must be at least 50 yards from trails and 200 yards from roads and water sources. Campfires are generally allowed, but may be prohibited when conditions are dry.
