CONSIDER THE SHORES of the South Pacific instead, where Fiji is becoming the go-to for wanton castaways. Tokoriki Island, just over an hour from the mainland by speedboat, is every escapist’s fantasy: heart-stopping white- sand beaches sandwiched between dense chunky foliage and gently cresting waves. Twenty-six thatched villas (or bures as they are locally known) and eight generous villas are scattered across this adult-only island, all of which exude a traditional homespun feel imbued with a dash of the exotic. Likewise, in the spa, therapists use products from the local environment such as papaya, coconut and frangipani. It sure takes a lot of air miles to get to this watery wonderland, but we assure you, it’s worth it!
