Street and the CityPlace Atrium, in Boston’s theater district, is lined with bars and discos. Sweetwater Cafe, next to Zanzibar, is a rambunctious bar with great Tex-Mex food at very reasonable prices, considering the area.
A huge appetizer of chicken wings is $4.95; same price for a pair of soft tacos, filled with beef or chicken with refried beans and rice. Burgers are half-pounders of fresh meat in various styles Buffalo, barbecue, jalapeno all in the $5-$6 range. The atmosphere is loud and funky, and the decor is done all in natural Western wood, like a Texas roadside grill. Elvis looks out over the proceedings, as do a shark and some gators.
The jukebox bounces from Aretha to Stevie Ray to Sinatra. Pints of Bass,
Sam Adams, and more are on tap. Sweetwater is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 am. to 2 am.
