GREAT WESTERN TRAIL MAP UTAH
This new trail may eventually run all the way from Canada to Mexico, extending some 2,400 miles. So far the main portion being constructed is in Utah, with some sections now finished. Along the way is some outstanding mountain and desert scenery.
For most of its length the trail utilizes preexisting trails and roads. The trail is multiuse, with horses, mountain bikes, and motorized vehicles allowed on some segments. There will be parallel routes for different uses part of the way.
Most of the time the trail is on National Forest lands, and it passes through five of Utah’s six National Forests. A small portion is on BLM lands. Some of the route is at high elevations. Difficulty ranges from easy to strenuous.
Camping Regulations: On National Forest and BLM lands camping and campfires are allowed practically anywhere, except near recreation areas or where otherwise prohibited. It’s suggested that campsites be chosen which are well off the trail and away from water sources. No permits are required.
