Queen of Tarts, 3 Cork Hill (670 7119). This little red gem offers homemade pastries, scones, cakes, and coffee. Continental breakfast ‚4-6. Open M-F 7:30am-6pm, Sa 9am-6pm, Su 10am-6pm.

Zaytoons, 14-15 Parliament St. (677 3595). Persian food served on big platters of warm bread. Excellent chicken kebab (‚6.50). Open M-Sa noon-4am.

Gruel, 68 Dame St. (670 7119). Come for a sit-down or takeaway meal made by a world-class chef. Lunch changes daily; go F for roast lamb with apricot chutney (‚6). Dinners ‚6-12. Open daily 8:30am-9:30pm.

Yamamori Noodles, 71-72 S. Great Georges St. (475 5001). Exceptional Japanese cuisine. Entrees ‚12-14. Open M-W and Su 12:30-1 lpm, Th-Sa 12:30-11:30pm. Leo Burdock’s, 2 Werburgh St. ( 454 0306), up from Christ Church Cathedral. The real deal for fish and chips. A holy ritual for many Dubliners. Takeaway only. Fish ‚4. Chips ‚1.50. Open M-Sa noon-midnight, Su 4pm-midnight.

Govinda’s, 4 Aungier St. ( 475 0309). Fabulous veggie fare in a bright, airy oasis. Dinner special ‚7.50. Open M-Sa llam-9pm.

Cafe Irie, 11 Fownes St. (672 5090). Travel up Fownes St. from Temple Bar; it’s on the left above the clothing store Se Si Progressive. A small, hidden eatery with an impressive selecton of sandwiches (‚2-4). Open M-Sa 9am-8pm, Su noon-6pm.

The Blue Room, Copperinger Row (670 6982). Wonderful, family-friendly cafe. Make sure to try their pesto and homemade cranberry sauce. Sandwiches ‚6.40. (Open M-F 10am-6:30pm.)

Boulevard Cafe, 27 Exchequer St. Walk inside to the outside of an Italian street; this funky little place has recreated an Italian boulevard within its walls. Good tapas (‚5.70) and pastas (‚8.30) round out the cuisine. Entrees ‚14-22. Cafe open daily 10am-6pm. Restaurant open daily 6pm-midnight.

Monty’s of Kathmandu, just off Dame St. on the right (670 4911). Nepalese food with decor to match. Try the Sekuwa Chatpate Chicken or Begum Bahar (both ‚14). Open Su 6-ll:30pm, M-Sa noon-2:30pm and 6-ll:30pm.
