This is a favorite breakfast destination and people will wait in line for the place to open for their favorite cinnamon French toast with caramelized pears. It’s a funky, retro-style diner that offers breakfast, casual brunch and lunch. Most of the fare is pretty typical but it’s a locals’ favorite.

The Lodge at North Sunderland used to be a dive centre but was sold a few years ago. Divers requiring compressed air or/and diving equipment can find it at Toby Douglas’ dive shop in a unit in the industrial estate at North Sunderland; this is now the only place in the area that sells air. Toby and his brother Andrew run the Sovereign charter boats out of Seahouses harbour. From Seahouses, the open, windswept coast road winds its way south for three miles before arriving at the pretty little village of Beadnell. The journey takes you past Seahouses golf course with its streams and ponds, and then the Camping Club site on the right-hand side of the road just before Beadnell village. This is the only organised campsite for tents and campervans within a 15-mile radius of Beadnell, the next nearest being at Waren Mill, two miles north of Bamburgh. It is, though, sometimes possible to seek permission to pitch a tent in the field next to the Links caravan site. Fortunately for divers, they are now able to camp in the sheltered grounds of Stan Hall’s land behind the Beadnell Hotel. The camping site on the seafront, run by the Camping Club of Great Britain, has good access to the beach, exceptionally clean toilets and hot showers, with attached ironing rooms and washrooms, but the site is not cheap compared with many others around the country. opposite the Camping Club entrance and across the road, a concrete slipway leads onto soft sand, but it is still a long, hard haul launching a boat without the use of a four-wheel drive vehicle, while the sandy channel between the rocks at low tide is strewn with large boulders on which many a lower leg or propeller has been damaged.
