Point Mugu State Park Lies At The West End Of The Santa Monica Mountains In Ventura County, Adjacent To The Pacific Ocean To The South, Newbury Park To The North, And Oxnard To The West. The 1 6,000-Acre State Park Is The Largest And Most Remote In The Mountain Range. The Park Is Accessed From Its North End Directly Through Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa, A Preserved Parcel Of Land Operated By The National Park Service. Weaving Throughout Are Nearly 75 Miles Of Hiking, Biking, And Equestrian Trails. The Trail System Combines Fire Roads, Paved Service Roads, Single-Track Trails, And Primitive Paths. Hikes 131-135 Are Located Here.

The Sprawling Parkland Spans From The Pacific To The Upper Reaches Of The Santa Monica Range. Five Miles Of Ocean Shoreline Include Rocky Bluffs, Sandy Beaches, And Rolling Dunes. The Rugged Hills And Uplands Include Two Major Creek-Fed Canyons And Grass Valleys Dotted With Oaks, Walnuts, And
Sycamores. Big Sycamore Canyon Runs The Length Of The Park. It Is A Deep, Tree-Shaded, Stream-Fed Canyon. A Hiking Trail (Fire Road) Follows The Canyon Bottom For Its Entire Length. Numerous Connecting Paths Lead Up To The High Ridges To Either Side Of The Canyon. The Boney Mountain State Wilderness Occupies The Eastern Portion Of The Park. The Wilderness Area, A 6,000-Acre Preserve, Contains The Jagged, Rocky Peaks Of Boney Mountain, With Pinnacles Rising Above 3,000 Feet (The Highest Promontories Of The Santa Monica Range). At The Base Of Boney Mountain Is Serrano Valley, A Gorgeous Grassland Marbled With Slow-Moving Streams. The Western Side Of The Park Is Home To The La Jolla Valley Natural Preserve, A 600-Acre Upland Valley With A Rare Native Bunchgrass Prairie.
Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa Is Located At The Northern Boundary Of Point Mugu State Park And The South Edge Of Newbury Park. The Historical Site Is Named For Its Two Cultural Legacies. For Thousands Of Years It Was The Ancestral Land Of The Chumash And Gabrielino Indians. It Later Became A Horse And Cattle Ranch Named Rancho Sierra Vista. To Reflect The Native American Heritage, The Satwiwa Culture Center And Natural Area Was Established. A Hub Of Hiking Trails Disperses From The Center.
Dogs Are Not Allowed In Point Mugu State Park. However, They Are Allowed In The Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa Section Of The State Land.
