The welcome party at this Tuscan castle is beyond adorable. As you pootle along the olive-tree-lined driveway, with sweeping hill views stretching out around you, don’t be surprised to find Uva the golden Labradorcross bounding towards your car (to our delight, she didn’t leave our side for the rest of the trip).
This 12th-century medieval castle is an exquisite place, where relaxation comes as standard and wine from the vineyard flows freely. A firm favourite with fashion editors (Vogue and Vanity Fair have shot here) and A-listers in search of a secluded escape, the nine-suite spot is owned by the Baccheschi-Berti family, who welcome you with open arms (literally).

Rooms are festooned with pieces from their travels, but for something ultra-luxe, try the new spa suite: a Scandi-vibe chalet with sauna, steam room and hot tub (oh, and whoop-out-loud views of the countryside). For dinner, the flagstone kitchen serves delicious homemade feasts.
Our favourite? Wild boar on toasted polenta, washed down with a Terre di Vico Merlot as sunset bathes the valley in an amber glow. Glorious. THE LUXE TOUCH After breakfast, hike through the vineyards while the sun’s not too hot. Head to the Ombrone Valley at the bottom of the hill for sparkling river views.
