1. Visit Graceland. Elvis Presley is one of Memphis’ most famous residents, and his home—Graceland—is a must-see for tourists. The mansion is open to the public every day except Christmas, and there are often special events happening onsite.
2. Walk around Beale Street. This historic downtown district is known for its music venues, bars and restaurants. Stop by The Peabody Hotel or a few of the other popular spots to get a feel for the local scene.
3. Take a trip down Memory Lane. Memphis has a wealth of historical sites that are well worth spending time at. 7. FedExForum – This wasn’t really listed on my itinerary and probably could have been skipped since I was only there for 2 days, but the FedExForum is pretty cool. It was the site of the 1968 Democratic National Convention, and it hosts various shows, concerts, and sporting events. Though I didn’t get to see any of the shows because they were sold out when I went, it looked really nice inside.
8. The National Civil Rights Museum (LOCATION) – In case you haven’t noticed by now, both of my stops are located in Memphis, Tennessee. This museum is free and worth walking around if you have time to kill since you’re there!
9. Elvis Presley’s Graceland – The house where Elvis grew up has been turned into a huge shrine to his life on Earth. There are tons of things to do here including visiting his gravesite and his old school.
10. Beale Street – This street is a fun, lively place filled with crazy characters, bars, and vendors. There are some great places to eat on this street if you want something more than fast food, but it’s very touristy.
