Casablanca is a very popular destination for travelers. Every year, it hosts thousands of tourists and travelers who want to explore the African country. With this in mind, I’ve created a Casablanca travel guide that includes maps of the city and tips on how to best explore the area while traveling!

Casablanca is a city on the Mediterranean Sea in north-western Morocco. It is considered the economic and political capital of Morocco, and is the largest city in the country. The city has a population of over 2 million people, making it one of Europe’s most populous metropolitan areas. Casablanca is also one of the world’s major shipping ports. The Port of Casablanca is the largest port in Morocco, and it is an important industrial center.
Casablanca was founded by Berber traders in 1519, as an oasis on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The Portuguese arrived in 1415 and began to establish trade posts along the coast. In 1428, King Mohammed I granted Casablanca to his son Yusuf I, who turned it into a major trading center with Asia and Europe. The Kingdom of Morocco was founded in 1912, and Casablanca became its capital. In 1955, Casablanca was designated as the capital of Morocco, replacing Rabat.

What to Do in Casablanca
Casablanca is the perfect place to start your Morocco travel journey. Here are some tips for what to do in Casablanca:
1. Take a walk on the Corniche: Walk or cycle along the picturesque Corniche, where you can enjoy stunning views of the medina and the Royal Palace.
2. Visit the Mohammed V Mosque: One of Casablanca’s most iconic landmarks is the Mohammed V Mosque, which was built in 1965 by King Hassan II. The mosque is an important Islamic site and is also home to a museum with exhibits on Islamic art.
3. Visit the Hassan II Museum: Another interesting museum worth visiting in Casablanca is the Hassan II Museum, which tells the story of Morocco’s first king, Hassan II. The museum has a large collection of Moroccan treasures, including pieces from Timbuktu and Songhai empires.
4. Spend an afternoon at one of Casablanca’s beaches: If you want to relax after a busy day exploring Casablanca, head to one of its beautiful beaches for a swim or a sunbathing session. Be sure to bring your beach towel!
What to Eat in Casablanca
Casablanca is a city full of delicious food, and whether you are looking for Moroccan-style chicken tajine or pizza, there is something for everyone to eat.
If you’re looking for a quick bite, the popular boulevard Hassan II has a wide variety of stalls and cafes offering sandwiches, pizzas, kebabs, pastries and ice cream. For something a little more substantial, head to one of the many restaurants in the historic core or one of the neighbourhoods further out. Don’t forget to order some mint tea or sugary drinks to wash all that good food down!
Here are some suggestions for what to eat in Casablanca:
1) Bouquets Restaurant: Located on Rue de la Liberté opposite the Maison du Roi, this restaurant serves up traditional Moroccan cuisine with a modern twist. Try the lamb tajine or penne with chicken curry.
2) La Rotonde: If you’re after some classic French cuisine then head to La Rotonde. This restaurant is popular with locals and offers a wide range of dishes including pigeon in garlic, turbot with caramelized onions and cassoulet made with beef stewed in butter.
3) Le Smorghi: If you’re looking for a quick bite then pop into this bustling little Italian restaurant on Rue El Kantaoui. Try their delicious pizza, pasta and meatballs.
4) Le Palais des Thés: Located in the Medina (old city), this traditional Moroccan cafe serves up fresh light lunches with a tempting array of sandwiches and salads. The best part? It’s all under $5!5) La Maison de la Cîme: This is one of the most popular places to eat in Casablanca and is located just off Rue el Mounia.
Getting Around in Casablanca
Casablanca is a great city to explore on foot and there are plenty of easy-to-follow maps and tips available if you need them. If not, taxis are cheap and reliable.
If you’re looking for something a little more unique than the average tourist attraction, head to the Medina (old city), which is full of narrow alleyways, colourful doorways and stunning architecture. At the heart of the Medina is the Djemaa el Fna square, where you’ll find plenty of cafes, shops and traditional music performances.
If you’re feeling energetic, take a walk along the Corniche (beach promenade), or head out for a ride on one of Casablanca’s famous horse-drawn carriages. Whatever you do, don’t miss an opportunity to soak up some Moroccan atmosphere – just be prepared to speak Arabic!
