Fabulous food at low prices what a concept! This is a storefront location for a company that has been in the catering business for years; their large kitchen takes care of both the catering and the cafe, which means the public has access to Concept’s creative, delicious cooking at low cost.
Starting the day off, there are fresh-baked muffins and unusual scones, like orange-poppyseed and lemon-ginger. Plus egg breakfasts, gourmet coffees of course, and a noncaffeine alternative hot vanilla.
Lunch and (early) dinner bring terrific, enormous sandwiches and salads. Daily hot specials may offer such creations as Oriental beef pie or honey pot roast, usually around $5; or such standards as a half-chicken dinner for $6.50, with two side dishes (baked beans, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cole slaw, or a garden salad).
You can also pick up pre-arranged chicken or lasagna dinners that in- elude salad, sides, and dessert for up to four people. Speaking of dessert: Don’t pass up the yummy homemade goodies like chocolate-peanut butter cookies, and cheesecake topped with fruit. The latter is a mere $1.75 a slice such a deal!
The cafe itself is cozy and bright, small but not cramped. During warm weather, there are a couple of tables outside. Owners Diane and Sharon not only serve with a smile, but they probably made your meal themselves and they’re happy to chat about their recipes, too. There’s a concept for ya. Open Mondays through Fridays from 6 AM to 7 pm, and Saturdays til 2:30 P.M.
