The owners, Vlado and Sladjana Novakovic, brought most of the recipes for brioche, focaccia, baguettes, and kalamata olive loaves from their native Belgrade, Serbia, and still make their breads and pastries using Old World recipes. During the morning rush, it’s common to wait in line for the cannolis, scones, muffins, sweet breads, and marble brownies to be pulled fresh from the oven. Few of the recipes call for eggs, oils, or sugar, making Nova’s a favorite for those who follow restricted diets.
