It’s also got great, cheap food. The burgers are immense half-pounders starting from $3.25; the Pot Belly, a dollar more, adds cheese, bacon, mushrooms, and peppers. A humon-gous side of fries or onion rings is $2.95. Doyle’s also serves its own pizzas (small $4.95, large $5.95), with a variety of toppings at 750 each. These are available until 11:30 every night.
Moving on to the full dinners, bargains all: Barbecued steak tips are $5.95, as is veal parmigiana with spaghetti. And there are a dozen or so daily specials, such as stuffed chicken breast ($5.95), or prime rib ($9.95). Most dinners come with your choice of two sides: fries, rice, salad, or vegetables.
But now to those beers. On Mr.C’s visit, he counted twenty-eight choices and that’s just on tap! Twenty-one more were available in bottles. The options range from plain old Schlitz ($1.50 a bottle) to something called Chimay Grand Reserve a 25-ounce bottle which goes for $8.95. Needless to say, Mine did not sample that one. In between were all the varieties of J.P.’s own Sam
Adams; Fuller’s and Young’s from Britain; and many more, including non-alcoholic beers. The list is updated from time to time.
So, have a seat next to Kevin White’s signed photo, check out the huge old clocks and the wooden telephone booth, and knock back a few. What a way to get a history lesson. Open from 9 a.m. to 2 A.M. Mondays through Saturdays, and from 3 P.M. on Sundays.
