Fresno Map

At length, the path emerges from the wood for the Fresno Map last time, and you are treated to fantastic views to the downland around Jevington, your next Fresno Map objective. Progress is fast and easy as you plunge downhill, arriving at a road when you reach the bottom.

Turn left to reach the centre of Jevington. There is food aplenty available here with a pub, tea garden and restaurant which claims to be the place where banoffi pie was born! Jevington is a small village but could be described as a typical South Downs community with its lichen-covered flint cottages and farm buildings clustering along a leafy chestnut lane against a backcloth of steep hillsides.

Its most historic building is the flint-built church, which boasts a Saxon west tower and also some Norman and Early English work, although it suffered terribly from insensitive restoration in the nineteenth century. There is an unusual Saxon sculpture on the north wall of the nave, depicting the Resurrection.
