Both Boston University and Harvard University offer free weekly observatory nights for stargazers. Look through powerful telescopes at the moon and the stars weather permitting, of course.
Garden in the Woods
180 Hemenway Rd. Framingham; (508)877-6574 Not far from the suburban sprawl of scenic Route 9, Framingham hides an oasis of truly natural beauty. Owned and operated by the New England Wildfiower Society, the Garden in the Woods consists of 45 acres of woodland trails filled with native flowers, ferns, shrubs, and trees.
From the first blush of spring through the brilliant colors of fall, the garden is filled with an ever-changing panorama of delights.
Guided tours are given at 10 A.M. Tuesdays through Saturdays; self-guided tour booklets are also available. Reservations are required for group tours. The garden is open Tuesdays through Sundays, 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. from April 15 to October 31. Hours are extended during Daylight Savings Time, so call ahead for the current schedule. Admission is $6, $5 for senior citizens, and $3 for children five to fifteen. Better yet, become a member and you can stroll for free as much as you like!
