There’s semidesert vegetation here, with wildlife which includes mule deer, bighorn sheep, and coyote.
Activities: Backpacking and hiking are available on about 45 miles of trails. Horseback riding is permitted on most trails. Cross-country skiing is often possible here during winter. Rock climbing is another option in the Monument.
Camping Regulations: Backcountry camping is allowed almost anywhere, but sites must be at least 100 yards from trails and one-quarter mile from roads. No permits are necessary. Campfires are not allowed, so a stove must be used for cooking. Pets are prohibited.
