It was the middle of one of the coldest winters I had ever experienced. The persistent sub zero temperatures made me feel as though I had cabin fever My boyfriend and I needed an escape from this wretched winter. He suggested that we go on a vacation. I wanted to avoid Floridia, California, and the Carolinas. Where could we go that wasn’t a typical vacation spot? I had always wanted to vacation in a different country. So, we began searching the internet for an island getaway with beauitful resorts and beaches.
After a couple of hours we had sorted through Hawaii, the Bahamas, and Bora Bora. We knew we had to find someplace our friends had never been. My boyfriend then showed me a beautiful picture of twin waterfalls. He told me the waterfalls were called the Tamarin Falls in Mauritius. I had never heard of this place before. He told me it was in East Africa; and the pictures were breathtaking! I immediately fell in love and knew this would be the perfect vacation destination. Despite the fact we’ve had our passports for two years, we had yet to use them. This was the perfect opportunity to finally get our first stamp! My boyfriend and I needed to come up with a game plan. We decided that we were going to stay in Mauritius for six days.

This means we needed to find a flight and a car. We found a roundtrip ticket for about $6,000 for the both of us. After we booked our flight, we found a wonderful company named Soleiro Car Rental Mauritius that let us rent a car for 25 Euro‚ a day. It included airport pick up, free GPS, unlimited miles, insurance, AND 24/7 assistance. Everything seemed perfect; it was almost too good to be true. We began counting down the weeks to our trip. We were leaving March 10th. We arrived at the airport at 3:00am to make sure we got through customs with no delay. The flight was with Delta Airlines and we left our hometown at 5:00am. After stopping in New York and Johannesburg, we landed in Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport at 3:00pm.
