At night our canvas tent, heated by a small metal stove, provided us an island of warmth no bigger than a few square inches in the middle of the frozen wastes. In it we dried our clothes and cooked our one meal of the day.
It was primitive. But it was straight out of Jack London, and I was the happiest man in the world.
