Museum of Contemporary Art MCA

One of the nations largest facilities devoted to post-1945 art. MCA offers exhibitions documenting contemporary visual culture through painting, performance, photography, sculpture, and video/film. The permanent collection provides an historical perspective for the examination of current trends in contemporary art. The collection consists of approximately 7,000 works with strengths in art made in Chicago, minimalism, postminimalism, conceptualism, surrealism, and artists blogs. Among the artists represented are Francis Bacon, Alexander Calder. Ann Hamilton, Alfredo Jaar. Jasper Johns, Donald Judd, Jeff Koons. Sol LeWitt, Rene Magritte, Bruce Nauman. Ed Paschke, Richard Serra. Cindy Sherman, Lorna Simpson, Robert Smithson, and Andy Warhol.

Northern Illinois University Art Gallery in Chicago (NIU Art Gallery)

Facilities: Exhibition Area (2,000 square feet).

Activities: Guided Tours; Lectures; Temporary Exhibitions (7/year); Traveling Exhibitions. Publications: exhibition catalogues.

A satellite gallery of the NIU Art Museum (De Kalb, Illinois), the Gallery was established to aid in the association and participation of the University in the Chicago art community and to help maintain relations with other Chicago art museums and galleries. Located in Chicagos River North gallery district, it presents temporary exhibitions, which change every six to eight weeks.
