At breakfast, one egg with Portuguese sausage, home fries, and toast all comes to a whopping $2.65. Homemade comed beef hash and two eggs, same sides, is $3.35. Lunch moves up to varying daily specials, like a terrific shepherd’s pie ($4.25, with a vegetable), fish and chips (same price), or broiled rainbow trout ($5.10). Bottled beers and chablis are available.

Having recently undergone a change in management the Beale St. Diner has also expanded its menu. Two U-shaped counters give one room that classic coffee-shop charm, while plenty of tables give the other section a casual restaurant feel.
Order yourself a gargantuan waffle and a cuppa joe for just $1.95; throw some blueberries on top for 75e more. A further buck got Mine four strips of bacon that started the day off right A morning special offered two poached eggs with Canadian bacon on an English muffin, served with baked beans, juice, and coffee all for a mere $3.50.
Barbecue is the specialty at lunchtime. Blue-plates go for $4.95, whether you prefer a half-chicken or roast turkey. Sirloin tips are $5.95, pork ribs $6.95. All come with a choice of two sides: Quincy baked beans, real mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, fries, and others. And every day offers a different pasta meal for $3.95.
Beale St. is also a fine place to bring the kiddies; a menu designed for them offers a burger, chicken fingers, or a foot-long hot dog (each $2.99) served with fries, a drink, and dessert. The waitstaff is friendly and, at least on Mine’s visit remarkably tall. The entire menu is available from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and from 8 a.m. Sundays.
