One Kendall Square, Cambridge; (617) 577-7850
A recent addition to the bustling food scene at Kendall Square, Sazarac combines two of Mine’s favorite qualities: It’s trendy and inexpensive.
The artsy decor features a Southwestern clay red and mustard yellow motif, in a winding series of dining rooms and lounge areas. One of the smaller rooms has a pool table, available for anyone’s use. It’s all way hip.
There’s also an outdoor patio on the square’s brick courtyard, when the weather is nice. Microbrews on tap include Seattle’s Red Hook, and Oregon Nut Brown Ale. The menu was still being worked out at press time, but early response assures Mr.
C that this place will be a hit with prices that are a buck or two lower than other restaurants and brewpubs in the complex. The fare is casual but creative; sandwiches like ham and Fontina cheese, with grilled onions and maple mustard ($5.25), served with tabouleh chickpea salad, plus equally distinctive pizzas and salads. Open daily for lunch and dinner until 1 a.m. (food til 11 p.m.)
