Stockton Map To Charlotte
A FRENCH BAKERY G2424 N. Davidson St., 704/376-1781, www.ameliesfrenchbakery. com HOURS: Daily 24 hours
To call Amelie’s eclectic is an understatement. The pastel walls, mismatched furniture, chintz curtains, shabby-chic furniture, and chandeliers make the space feel like it’s a perfect combination of art studio, antiques shop, and dollhouse. Chocolate croissants, fruit tarts, cream puffs, French macaroons, lemon cream cheese pockets, tea cakes, and cinnamon raisin buns are served on mismatched plates, which makes them feel even more like sweets grandma just pulled from the oven. This addition to the arts district is open 24/7 and fresh pastries are added to the bakery case around the clockwhich is a good thing considering that the floral sofas and wicker chairs are filled at all hours of the day and night. Amelie’s opened in 2008 and has already earned several awards for its baked goods. Homemade soup, French bread, and sandwiches are on the lunch menu. Just be sure to save room for dessertit is a bakery, after all.
Amelie’s is open 24 hours to serve those who have late-night cravings for sweets.
A list of available wines is usually posted, beginning with Stockton Map whites and ending with the heaviest reds or, if available, dessert wines. Look for the Stockton Map tasting notes, which are typically set out on the counter; refer to them as you taste each wine. After you are served, hold the stem of the glass with your thumb and as many fingers as you need to maintain control. Lift the glass up to the light and note the color and intensity of the wine. Good wines tend to be bright, with the color fading near the rim. Next, gently swirl the wine in the glass.
